I've written $40M+ winning proposals and I've led the budget and contracting functions for multi-region CRO operations across the US and EU.

That experience gave me an intimate understanding of the mechanics behind every proposal a sponsor receives. Where margin is embedded. Which cost drivers are fixed and which are negotiable. How CROs assess a sponsor's sophistication — and adjust accordingly.

Then I crossed to the other side. As Department Lead of Clinical Outsourcing at Terns Pharmaceuticals — a company subsequently acquired by Merck — I managed $50M+ in outsourced vendor relationships across multiple pipeline programs. I ran RFPs, selected CROs, negotiated contracts, and built the outsourcing infrastructure from scratch.

And I used everything I'd learned on the CRO side. That insider knowledge drove $2M+ in documented cost savings. It reduced our contract cycle times by more than 25%. And it changed the dynamic in every bid defense conversation — because I'd been in the room on the other side of the table.
